Inference in Opinion Dynamics Under Social Pressure

چکیده
We introduce a new opinion dynamics model where group of agents holds two kinds opinions: inherent and declared. Each agent's is fixed unobservable by the other agents. At each time step, broadcast their declared opinions on social network, which are governed agents' pressure. In particular, we assume that may declare not aligned with to conform neighbors. This raises natural question: Can estimate from observations opinions? For example, represent true political alliances (Democrat or Republican), while inclinations tweets media. this context, seek predict election results observing voters' tweets, do necessarily reflect support due analyze question in special case underlying network complete graph. prove that, as long population does include large majorities, estimation aggregate individual possible. On hand, majorities force minorities lie over time, makes asymptotic impossible.

Social Pressure in Opinion Games
Motivated by privacy and security concerns in online social networks, we study the role of social pressure in opinion games. These are games, important in economics and sociology, that model the formation of opinions in a social network. We enrich the definition of (noisy) best-response dynamics for opinion games by introducing the pressure, increasing with time, to reach an agreement. We prove...
متن کاملOpinion dynamics under opposition
We study a DeGroot-like opinion dynamics model in which agents may oppose other agents. As an underlying motivation, in our setup, agents want to adjust their opinions to match those of the agents they follow (their ‘ingroup’ or those they trust) and, in addition, they want to adjust their opinions to match the ‘inverse’ of those of the agents they oppose (their ‘outgroup’ or those they distrus...
متن کاملOpinion Dynamics under Conformity
We present a model of opinion formation where individuals repeatedly engage in discussion and update their opinion in a social network similarly to the DeGroot model. Abstracting from the standard assumption that individuals always report their opinion truthfully, agents in our model interact strategically in the discussion such that their stated opinion can differ from their true opinion. The ...
متن کاملAnalyzing Opinion Dynamics in Online Social Networks
In this paper, we examine the challenge of performing analyses of opinion dynamics in online social networks. We present a model for studying the influence exerted by peers within the network, emphasizing the role that skepticism can play with respect to establishing consensus of opinion. From here, we focus on some key extensions to the model, with respect to the nature of peers (their familia...
متن کاملOpinion Dynamics and Learning in Social Networks
We provide an overview of recent research on belief and opinion dynamics in social networks. We discuss both Bayesian and non-Bayesian models of social learning and focus on the implications of the form of learning (e.g., Bayesian vs. non-Bayesian), the sources of information (e.g., observation vs. communication), and the structure of social networks in which individuals are situated on three k...
